If they can get 50 problems or more correct in that amount of time, move them up to the next fact-3s. They get their sheet of 100 problems (on one particular fact-say their 2s) and you give them five minutes to do the problems. I think having students go through the different facts starting with 1s and 0s and working their way up to their 11s and 12s is the best method. NO! Rocket Math is one of the most ineffective ways of getting students to learn their multiplication facts. Has not been effective for 2 out of my 2 kids so far. I'm sorry, if the teachers are spending a good bit of time on the tests everyday, then why are the parents also supposed to be spending a lot of time on it at night? I am getting upset with this - my 5th grader seems to not know her basic multiplication / division facts, and my 2nd grader doesn't know her basic addition and subtraction.īack in the 1970s, I recall filling out some kind of charts, that were also timed tests, and it seems that all the kids knew them cold (multiplication, definitely by the end of 3rd grade). I don't know if the teachers are all doing it wrong, NONE of them have ever shown me the parent letter. My kids seem to get stuck and frustrated. This seems to be the only teaching method their teachers have used (many different teachers - 3 different schools. Both of my girls (one now in 5th grade, one in 2nd grade) - have lost confidence and done poorly with their math facts. I have had a similar experience with RocketMath.
